Ok, so there still aren’t any food subscription services that will actually deliver straight to your mouth.
If I’m being honest, I’m a little bummed about that.
It’s 2022, and I thought I’d earned the right to be fed by robots, teleport, and do other futuristic things by now.
Instead, I’ll just have to settle for two-day shipping on almost anything (including delicious snackies). It’s a hard life.
But in all seriousness, a study done in 2018 found that subscription box services gained in popularity 100% year over year since 2013.
With so many options out there, which ones should you choose?
When it comes to food, shipping across the country (or the world) can be a pretty big problem. You want to choose brands and companies that do it right—not just for your safety, but for your wallet, too.
We got you.
We put together a list of our five favorite food subscription boxes right now in 2022. They may not deliver straight to your mouth (yet), but they’ll get to your front door just fine.

The 5 Best Food Subscription Boxes for Men in 2022
1. Jerky Subscription
Jerky Subscription is a monthly delivery of the US’ best small-batch artisan beef jerky. Choose either two, four, or six 2oz packages of jerky per box.
What We Like
The jerky comes in unusual flavors like Imperial Stout infused, and Chesapeake Crab Spice, so even with a familiar snack, you’re getting excellent variety.
Jerky itself is a healthy treat and perfect for fighting the mid-afternoon sleepies. Since Jerky Subscription only curates top quality brands, you’re not getting anything with strange chemicals and odd preservatives. Only the best.
We’ve done our research on the competitors. Jerky Subscription has the best blend of quality and value for the price.
What We Don’t Like
We picked up six jerkies, but they only came from three brands. We’d have loved to learn about a wider selection of jerky brands, rather than just three.
What Other Reviewers Say
Cratejoy showcases over 30 positive customer reviews for Jerky Subscription. Whether they picked it up for themselves, a friend, or a family member, happy customers consistently mention fast shipping and great variety.
The Verdict
We see Jerky Subscription as the ideal food sub-box for two types of people: those who want a healthy, tasty snack in the middle of the day, and jerky enthusiasts.
We enjoyed our first shipment of Jerky Subscription, and we’ll never go back to the gas-station stuff again.
Jerky Subscription's attractive price point and excellent customer service make them a top choice if you’re looking to get your jerky on, monthly.
2. ButcherBox
ButcherBox is a hugely popular meat delivery service that sends grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and heritage pork straight to your door every month.
What We Like
We had a chance to try ButcherBox for ourselves, and the meat was truly high-quality.
The food arrived frozen, and the packaging was fully recyclable—no styrofoam.
You can go with a curated box or choose your own cuts.
What We Don’t Like
Navigating the website was cumbersome. ButcherBox asks for your email nearly every step of the way which was a bit frustrating.
What Other Reviewers Say
The internet is awash in ButcherBox reviews—from mom blogs to paleo enthusiasts, there are plenty of different groups that enjoy their monthly meat delivery.
These reviews all seem to mention the quality of the meat and convenience. For some, the price isn’t worth it—it’s true, you’re paying a convenience fee, and grass-fed beef is more expensive.
The Verdict
If you’re a home chef, but would rather spend your time cooking in the kitchen rather than at the supermarket.
If you’re cutting the takeout from your diet and want to add lean protein into your nightly routine.
If you’re—well, you get the point.
We were fans of ButcherBox when we gave it a shot. Tacos, pizza, steaks—we made it all. So if you’ve got a taste for great quality food and you’re short on time, consider giving ButcherBox a try.
ButcherBox delivers great cuts of top-quality meat straight to your door, and while you’ll pay a convenience fee, just knowing you have a freezer full of healthy options is invaluable for when the workweek gets hectic.
3. Factor 75
Factor75 delivers fully cooked, health-focused meals designed by nutritionists and prepared by chefs.
What We Like
If you’re paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, or on a keto diet, Factor75 can tailor their menu to your eating plan.
They offer free nutrition coaching.
Reheat your meals in the oven or microwave for ultimate convenience.
The meals taste good.
What We Don’t Like
Sometimes you’ll finish a meal and still be hungry. Great for losing weight, but if you’re looking to build muscle, these meals need to be supplemented. That being said, they’re an excellent base to start from.
What Other Reviewers Say
Over 3,800 reviews on Trustpilot give Factor75 a lot of love. Most reviewers mention the ease of eating healthy with this subscription.
Most meals can be reheated in just two minutes and with the keto, paleo, and gluten-free options, even tricky diets become easy.
The Verdict
If you’re starting a new diet, or if you’re just tired of eating out and want a healthier option, Factor75 is our top choice.
No cooking, very little clean-up, and the kind of nutritional value that’ll bring proud tears to your doctor’s eye—if that’s something you’re into, you may want to check out Factor75 for yourself.
If you’re starting a new diet, or if you’re just tired of eating out and want a healthier option that actually tastes good, Factor75 is our go-to meal delivery box.
4. Snackcrate
Every month, SnackCrate curates a box of snacks from a particular country. One month you might get gummies and chocolates from Japan, and the next you might get sour strips from Ireland.
What We Like
We love the focus on a specific country every month. The snacks are usually delicious, but even better—the subscription feels a bit like you’re traveling the world.
The three size options make it so you can indulge a little, go all out on movie night, or have enough snacks for a party.
One lucky subscriber gets a golden ticket to visit that month’s snack destination. Meaning they actually get to go to the place the snacks were sourced.
What We Don’t Like
Some candies and snacks are hard to love. We’re looking at you, Poland.
What Other Reviewers Say
The Verdict
SnackCrate is a box of fun. A full year of this subscription is like a trip around the world. You get to see what snackers everywhere are enjoying.
If you’re a picky eater, you may not love everything SnackCrate has to offer.
But if you’re looking to kick back on the couch, put on a movie, and munch your way around the world, then SnackCrate is perfect for you.
SnackCrate is a box of fun. A full year of this subscription is like a trip around the world in candy form.
5. Musclebox
Musclebox is a monthly shipment of the best protein bars and supplements. It’s not just a food subscription, though. Your delivery comes with apparel and a workout plan, too.
What We Like
The protein bars (protein cookies and brownies, too) are delicious and perfect for a post-workout bite.
The accompanying workout programs were intense. We loved that Musclebox didn’t soften up their program to cater to the masses.
You can choose to only get the protein snacks if you’re not interested in the shirts or workout programs.
Customer service was really responsive in exchanging shirts that didn’t fit.
What We Don’t Like
One of the items in our shipment (a drink) arrived a bit beat up. But when we brought it up to Musclebox, they offered to replace it free of charge.
What Other Reviewers Say
Some reviewers mentioned that their shirts didn’t fit out of the box. When we tried MB for ourselves, our assessment was that the shirts are meant to display muscle, so they fit tighter in the chest and arms.
But if your shirt doesn’t fit, Musclebox is easy to get in touch with and they’ll send you a different size free of charge. Other than that minor issue, the reviews we’ve seen have all been positive.
The Verdict
If you’re looking to smash your health goals in 2022, you may want to pick up a subscription that will keep your protein levels up.
It certainly helped us pump up when we put Musclebox to the test.
If you don’t have time to go to the health food store and pick up boxes of protein bars, give MB a try. The added apparel and intense workout plans are just icing on the (healthy) cake.
Musclebox’s monthly delivery of clothes, protein snacks, and workout plans is a killer way for bodybuilders to stay motivated---though if you’re looking for general fitness, the brand’s focus on high protein, high calorie snacks may not be the right fit for you.
3 Things to Consider When Signing Up for a Food Subscription Box
1. Do you want meals or snacks?
We wanted to get some of the obvious stuff out of the way first. If your New Year’s resolution is to shed some pesky pounds, you may not want to go with a service like SnackCrate, which serves up the world’s best candies and chips.
Instead, opt for a box that’s, you know—healthy.
If you’re on the self-improvement train, you have to find a balance between work, working out, and eating right. Sometimes getting to the store just doesn’t fit in.
So having a quick snack like jerky from Jerky Subscription or a protein bar from Musclebox really helps get to dinner-time without going full hangry on your family.
We don’t recommend going out and getting all five of these subscriptions (though you’d have a pretty great month). Instead, think about the one time of day you’re always wishing you had something to eat.
For us, that’s about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, and right after our workouts. So jerky fits in that weird afternoon time, and Musclebox fits in after the workout.
And when work gets super busy, ButcherBox and Factor75 slot in to take pressure off your dinner planning.
O.K, I know what you’re thinking. What about Snackcrate?
That’s for the one night a month when you want to let it all hang out.
2. Price and Value
Convenience always comes at a price.
If you’re getting into a food subscription, be willing to pay a little extra just for the service. If you have an apple delivered to you, it’s going to cost more than buying one at the store.
So services like ButcherBox do cost a premium. But for many (like us), having high-quality meat delivered is totally worth it.
We’ve tried other brands like Jerky Subscription, too, and found that the convenience-fee is actually very reasonable. While we could go to the corner gas station and pick up some cheap jerky, the quality just isn’t the same.
3. Customer Service
Because subscriptions are ongoing, it’s even more important to go with companies that offer excellent customer service.
There are so many horror stories sprinkled throughout the internet of people who’ve had their credit cards held hostage as their subscription service charges them month after month without delivering the goods.
So only choose reputable brands.
Go with the companies that have shown their willingness to get things right for their customers.
With food subscriptions, more so than other sub-boxes, things can go wrong. If it’s a hot day, if the delivery truck is slow, if the package gets tossed around in transit—you may get a few products that aren’t up to your standard.
If you spend time reading reviews online (like we do), you’ll see that all food subscription companies face these issues. What separates our top picks though, is their ability to make the situation right.
Some companies will block your email and leave you hanging with the bill. That’s not the case with our top picks.
Don’t Go Hungry
If you’re looking for a great snack that you can eat anytime, we recommend Jerky Subscription. Their service isn’t too hard to fit into your budget, and the product is healthy and portable.
If you want some help when it comes to grocery shopping, try ButcherBox. If you just want to skip cooking altogether but don’t want your health to take a hit, you’ve got to try Factor75.
Tired of hearing all about health? We get you.
We totally get you. And so does SnackCrate.
And if you’re looking for a subscription to help you crush your new year’s resolution, pick up a Musclebox.
Guys, there’s no need to go hungry. Grab one of these awesome subscriptions and get munching.
